Why We Started

We were born of a thirst for change. Cause We Care officially launched in May 2007, soon after a group of women volunteered at the Downtown Vancouver Eastside Women’s Centre’s annual Holiday lunch. We served more than 500 less-fortunate women and their children a memorable hot meal, and were touched by the challenges faced by those women and children. We were inspired to organize, and to develop concrete, effective ways to provide a ‘hand up’ through targeted outreach initiatives.

Cause We Care was founded by Andrea Thomas Hill. With her commitment to giving back to the community – and having become a new mother herself – Andrea was particularly drawn to the single women and children living within the harsh realities of Vancouver’s downtown Eastside. Armed with a strong desire to enable positive change in these women’s lives, Andrea founded Cause We Care Foundation.

Our Mission

A Vancouver-based registered charitable foundation, Cause We Care's mission is directed to marginalized single mothers and their children living in our community. We are committed to supporting resources and programs that strengthen their ability to achieve a better quality of life.
