A few years ago I was asked if I’d like to participate in the annual Care Package Drive, that’s how I started working with Cause We Care, and since then I have had the privilege of visiting Cause We Care House, emceeing the Mother's Day Luncheon, and meeting some of the moms who benefit from the Foundation.
Cause We Care caught my attention right away because it focuses on single moms. When I was young, it was just my mom and me. I idolized her and learned how to be strong and independent from her. My stepdad and stepbrothers became part of our family when I was 7 years old, but it really didn’t change my relationship with my mom. She has been my mentor, my friend, my sister, and most importantly – my mother. I want to honour other single moms and give them the opportunity to be all of those things to their children. If we can help take away the obstacles, financial or otherwise, that allow them to focus on being the best mom they can be – then I’m all in.
Giving back to the community is important to me and Global TV because we are *part* of the community. We have to take care of each other – that’s how a civilized society functions. We can’t sit idly by and watch our neighbors suffer. A prosperous, healthy community is better for all of us.
I wish there were less emphasis on material goods and consumerism and more emphasis on human connections. We don’t need all that stuff, but we do need each other.
Slow down – it will all get done. And if it doesn’t, it didn’t matter anyway.
