Keiko’s Story

As a single mother, Keiko’s life has been filled with challenges, especially after losing her job during the COVID-19 pandemic. When this happened, she decided to turn a difficult situation into an opportunity, returning to school to study social work. As a non-native English speaker, managing college-level studies while balancing the demands of motherhood and limited job opportunities was incredibly difficult. This is when Keiko turned to the Single Mothers Support Fund. “I applied because I knew that with the financial support, I could focus on my studies, work part-time, and most importantly, give my son the life he deserves.”

“Receiving support from Cause We Care has been life-changing. The financial assistance allowed me to contribute to the Indigenous community we are a part of, purchase a laptop for my son, and access critical resources for my studies,”  she says.  “With these burdens eased, I was able to raise my GPA to 4.0, a personal achievement I never thought possible. The grant provided me with stability, giving me the ability to focus fully on my education. As I near the end of my studies, I no longer worry about my future.”

Keiko is grateful to the community of Cause We Care supporters who have supported her studies “To the donors who have contributed to the Single Mothers Support Fund, I cannot express enough gratitude. Your support goes beyond financial aid. You have uplifted single mothers like me, who often face social discrimination and are stigmatized as struggling or uneducated. Your contributions have not only alleviated these struggles but have empowered us to rise above them, to pursue education, and to envision a better future for ourselves and our children.

“The grant has given me peace of mind and a hopeful outlook. It has transformed my anxiety into anticipation for what lies ahead. I hope that more single mothers, especially those facing educational and language barriers, can benefit from this program. It has not only changed my life but has also given my son a brighter future. I am deeply thankful for the support that has given us both the opportunity to thrive.”
